President Donald Trump plans to unveil a $2.3 billion diesel upgrade program for Gulf war era vehicles as he seeks to boost U.S. manufacturing.
Trump is expected to announce the plan Thursday at a press conference at the White House.
The program would be funded through the State Department’s Overseas Investment Corporation.
The plan would help to reduce the cost of fuel for the fleet of diesel-powered warplanes and amphibious vehicles that the United States deployed in the Gulf.
It would also help to ease the impact of the massive 2011 tsunami in the Pacific Ocean that devastated the region.
The president has been working to increase U.N. aid to nations affected by the disaster.
